This English adaptation by Richard Bean, swaps the Italian setting to Brighton in 1963. Fired from his Skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe – a small time East End hood/gangster. Roscoe is actually his sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother – who has been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Francis moves to Brighton to collect £6,000 from the dad of his fiancée. Taking place at The Cricketers Arms Pub, Francis also ends up with a second job under Stanley Stubbers (an upper-class twit), who is hiding from the police waiting to reunite with Rachel.
