One Man, Two Guvnors by Richard Bean. An English adaptation of the Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni’s 1743 Commedia Dell’arte-style play, Servant of Two Masters. This English adaptation by Richard Bean, swaps the Italian setting to Brighton in 1963. Fired from his Skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe – a small time East End hood/gangster. Roscoe is actually his sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother – who has been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Francis moves to Brighton to collect £6,000 from the dad of his fiancée. Taking place at The Cricketers Arms Pub, Francis also ends up with a second job under Stanley Stubbers (an upper-class twit), who is hiding from the police waiting to reunite with Rachel. To avoid discovery, Francis has to keep his two guvnors apart and avoid either of the guvnors learning that Francis is working for somebody else. What could possibly go wrong..?
